Emergency Locksmith
Emergency Locksmith in Holly, Howell, and Oakland County, MI
An emergency locksmith situation is not something most people plan for. A key breaks off in a lock, a door closes behind you with the keys inside, a lock gets damaged during a break-in attempt, or you reach your car and realize the keys are gone. What all of these have in common is that the wrong response makes the situation worse: a broken key pushed further into the cylinder, a forced door that damages the frame, or a compromised lock left in place because replacing it felt like a project for later. LKE Locksmith provides mobile emergency locksmith services for residential, automotive, and commercial customers throughout Holly, Howell, Oakland County, and the surrounding Michigan area, available Monday through Friday during business hours.
Lockouts
We're here to help with your emergency locksmith needs like lockouts, losing all of your keys, and fixing and/or replacing broken keys.
A lockout is the most common emergency call we receive, and it is also the one where a rushed or improvised attempt causes the most unnecessary damage. Whether you are locked out of your house, your car, or your office, our approach is always to open the lock without harming it. We arrive equipped to handle the specific type of lock in front of us, not with a one-size approach that works on some hardware and damages the rest.
House lockouts, car lockouts, and office lockouts each require different tools and techniques. Our lockout service page covers what to expect for each type and what to do while you wait for us to arrive.
Broken Keys and Key Extraction
A key that snaps off inside a lock or an ignition cylinder is a frustrating situation that gets worse quickly if the wrong tools are used to retrieve it. Probing the cylinder with a bobby pin, a knife blade, or a similar improvised tool almost always pushes the broken piece further in, damages the cylinder walls, or breaks off a second piece that is now harder to reach than the first. Key extraction is a job for a thin, purpose-made tool and a technician who understands how the specific lock or ignition cylinder is built.
Once the broken key has been extracted, the next step depends on what the extraction reveals. If the cylinder is undamaged, a replacement key cut from the original code or from the remaining portion of the broken key restores full function. If the cylinder itself was damaged before we arrived, repair or replacement is assessed on site. For vehicle ignitions specifically, we carry the equipment to cut and program replacement keys for most domestic, foreign, and German vehicles so the job is finished in a single visit.
Lock Damage and Security Repair
A lock that has been through a forced entry attempt, a break-in, or sustained mechanical failure needs attention beyond just getting the door open. A damaged lock that is put back in service without repair or replacement is not providing the security it appears to. The bolt may not be fully engaging, the cylinder may have been damaged in a way that makes it easier to defeat, or the strike plate and door frame may have taken damage that compromises the whole assembly.
We assess the full picture on site: the lock, the hardware, the door frame, and whether rekeying addresses the problem or whether replacement is the right call. For residential properties that want a meaningful security upgrade after an incident, high-security deadbolts and reinforced hardware provide substantially better resistance than standard builder-grade locks. For commercial properties, the same visit can include a conversation about whether the existing hardware matches the actual security requirements of the space.
Lost Car Keys
Losing your only set of car keys puts you in a situation that a standard key cutting shop cannot help with. Modern vehicles use transponder keys, key fobs, and push-button ignition systems that require programming matched to the specific vehicle, not just a correctly cut blade. A key cut without the correct programming will turn in the ignition but will not start the car.
LKE Locksmith carries the equipment to cut and program replacement keys on site for most domestic, foreign, and German vehicles, including transponder keys and key fobs. In most cases the entire job is handled in a single visit, at a cost well below a dealership replacement. Our automotive locksmith page covers the full range of vehicle key and lock services, including car door lock repair and ignition work.

Emergency Locksmith FAQs
What is an emergency locksmith, and what do you help with?
An emergency locksmith helps with urgent problems that affect access and security, such as an emergency lock that will not operate, lockout services for a home, office, or vehicle, or a damaged lock that needs to be secured. We provide emergency help during our normal business hours.
Do you offer emergency services in Howell, MI?
Yes. If you are searching for a locksmith in and around Howell, we provide emergency services to these areas, along with our primary service area around Oakland County. Call us with your address so we can confirm coverage.
Do you provide 24/7 or 24-hour emergency lockout services?
No. We do not offer 24-hour or 24-hour a day emergency locksmith service. Availability depends on business hours and scheduling, so please call us to confirm the next available option.
Can you help if I’m locked out of my house or residential property?
Yes. We handle emergency lockout situations for a house or residential property, helping you regain entry while minimizing damage whenever possible. If the lock is failing or security is compromised, we can discuss repair, rekeying, or replacement options.
Can you help with automotive lockouts and lost car keys?
Yes. We provide automotive emergency help for lockouts and lost car keys, including situations involving car keys and certain auto locks issues for a car, truck, or other vehicle. If keys are lost, we can discuss replacement and programming options based on the vehicle.
What if my key breaks in the lock?
If you have keys broken in a lock or a broken key stuck in the cylinder, we can perform key extraction and inspect the lock. Depending on the condition, we may recommend rekeying, repair, or replacement to restore secure operation.
Should I rekey my locks after a key is lost or a security concern?
Sometimes, yes. A rekey can be a practical way to restore control when a key is lost, when access needs to change, or when you want new keys without changing all the hardware. We can help you choose the right solution for your property.
What information should I share when I call?
To help us respond efficiently, share whether this is residential, commercial, or automotive, your location, and what happened. Examples include an emergency lockout, lost keys, a lock that will not turn, or a broken key. The more details you provide, the better we can arrive prepared with the right tools and plan.
